Geena Davis
Big Beautiful Woman Geena Davis Wants More Women on Kids’ TV
In 2007, the “Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media” was founded by this
curvaceous celebrity. The institute is aimed at collaborating with the entertainment industry to include more
females in children’s television, and at the same time remove stereotyping of both males and females in media.
Because of her accomplishments thereafter, Bates College awarded her with an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree in
May 2009.
Could it be more than a coincidence? The full-figured Geena Davis at one point
played the role of a female US President whose predecessor unexpectedly dies while still in office. In Commander in
Chief, a TV series that ran for some time in the mid-2000s, many people believed that the show focused too much on
her character’s gender than her actual capacity to hold the highest political position in the country.
