Has this happened to you?  You spot a stunning necklace in a local jewelry store display, walk in, and ask to try it on. The salesperson retrieves the necklace from the display and offers to help you try it on. But the necklace is too small. There's embarrassment all around.         

Maybe the store offers to make the necklace longer. But custom work takes time, costs more and you are in a hurry. You may also feel that a piece isn't right for you if it doesn't fit from the start.

With the plus-size market in the United States comprises more than 36 million women, or almost one-third of the female population, a new option is to find a place that has jewelry specially designed for the plus size woman.

Plus size line jewelry has meet different standards-- For example; the plus size jewelry specialist will stock necklaces not only in 16- and 18-inch lengths but also 22 inches.  

They have rings above size 6, earrings with extra-long posts, or eight-inch bracelets. Many will have custom ordered pieces from designer lines in sizes that flatter plus size women.   

Plus size jewelry often uses larger stones that create a bolder design, which seems to better flatter a full-figured woman. 

However, in jewelry design, proportion is what counts. With the proper proportions, delicate designs can be very flattering to a large woman. Not every large woman wants to wear large jewelry, just as not every petite woman wants to wear tiny jewelry.

Plus size shops also have adjustable jewelry. With a watch, for example, they can have more than three or four sizings.  With extra length on the watch strap you can sure that the strap can be fastened down.  A necklace or bracelet can be enlarged with a standard extender.

If you are willing to invest some time and money into a piece of jewelry that's a bit too small, it may be possible to extend its length. This works best with jewelry that is made of standard components. These components are also known as findings. Expect to pay more for rare components, and it may not be possible to lengthen a necklace or bracelet that is composed of one-of-a-kind findings.

The plus- size woman wants to enjoy the shopping experience the same way everyone else does.  When you shop, you they want the comfort of trying on a piece of jewelry without the humiliation of the piece not fitting. It's like all other markets that are undervalued. When customers find a product that works for them, they will remain customers for life.
