Zaftig Jill Scott is a Grammy award-winning all around performer, author and philanthropist, but now she may well be more popularly known as the only person to have addressed the issue on comfort when dealing with plus sized bras for full-figured women. “I never understood why department stores and boutiques don’t pay attention to this market. They are homeowners, they pay taxes, and they have money to spend. So it didn’t seem farfetched or odd to want to go into an area where I see that the need is great.”

The curvaceous celebrity’s own personal circumstances probably clinched it. “Every woman in my family is pretty voluptuous. They all have these dark marks and have suffered shoulder pain from bras.” So in 2008, Jill Scott herself introduced to the Ashley Stewart clothes chain the Butterfly Collection bra line, specially made for the plus sized female population who not only look for “better support, no shoulder pain and no bulges,” but also have fashion in mind. And since the proceeds go to her Blues Babe Foundation, a program that gives financial assistance to young minority students in university, she has undoubtedly aided in uplifting women of all ages and sizes.
